Point wells residence

WEIR & CO

In rural Point Wells, two gabled macrocarpa barns connected by a flat-roofed hallway became the antidote to one family’s busy city lifestyle.

When Interior designer, Anya Mayo embarked on building a holiday home for her family, she enlisted family friend and Architect, Doug Weir to realise her vision. It was intended to be opposite of their Mt Eden character home which was solidly built in volcanic bluestone and punctuated with bold, graphic colour. Point Wells became their oasis of calm, furnished with vintage furniture collected over a lifetime and handmade pieces such as rugs, quilts and ceramics featured prominently. The house then evolved as the family spent more time there, and colour and texture were “absorbed”, reflecting the Xanthe White Design garden that warmly cocoons the house within.

It was such a joy to shoot this - we just toddled around and enjoyed the sunny gardens, moved things about and then all of a sudden we were finished.

The images were just perfect - I couldn’t have been happier!

Everything is solid and permanent... I wanted it to feel as good in 20 years time as it does now.
